Scam Part IV: Repost

I could not figure out how to remove a comment nor could I view the comment (but the editor said a commnet was present) so I reposted this submission from 12/31/09. I am hoping that deleting the original post will also delete the comment,


I received a check for $3850 today for an item that I listed on craigslist for $385.00. sounds too good to be true. Here is the letter minus a few deletions of proper nouns.

"Hello
how are you doing today ..well am so sorry for delay of the payment
and i have call the fedex Courier Service and they have let me know
that they are was a mistake and since they are is know respond from
fedex I finally mailed out the payment to you today Via UPS Courier
Service and here is the tracking # (1Z0R556V0190275076) The Mover fund
is already mailed out with the payment.

Go ahead right away and have the check cashed, deduct $385 for the
item with extra $100 for your running around expenses and wire the
remaining fund to the Mover. Visit nearest western union location
closed to you today and have the money sent to the Mover that will
handle the pick up of the item i bought from you and those i have all around for
the Mover to pick up. Send the money with MONEY IN MINUTES option.

Here is the Mover information you are to wire the money to:

I will be expecting the below information from you asap:

3:Amount sent after Western Union Charges
4:The exact time and date you want the shipping company to come for the
pick up of the item. Get back to me asap

Admittedly, I have neglected this blog for months. The plan is to do more ebay auctions and then start a static web site and THEN start a timely blog.

Anyway, I was riding around the estate and I was surprised to see that this post had generated 12 comments. I was even more surprised to see that the comments were in Korean. I did a Babel Fish on one and got the term "annular feelings." another yielded "Friendship trees, talent growth, lapse difficulties and " I was intrigued.

The intrigue wore off really fast when I pressed the link. I landed on a site that featured a page of teenage face shots. I had the feeling that if I went further I would see stuff I did not want to see. So I closed the window. I pressed the link from another comment and landed on the same page. I closed it before it opened.

I could not figure out how to eliminate the comments so I deleted the post and reposted it. Comments gone. I will be more vigilant about comments and links in the future.

The Scam Goes On

Got this epistle early today.

"Hello
how are you doing? i Wish you Merry Christmas and happy new year to
you over there ..pls kindly get the money send to my mover this
morning and get back to me with the Western Union details okay so the
mover can come for the pick up asap ...thanks"

Followed by this one. I crossed out proper nouns and addresses.

"Hello,

I just received notification from my Shipping Company that Alicia musa will
not be able to come for the pick up of the items again. I have
assigned a new Shipper that will take care of the pick up of the item.
Here is the newly assigned Shipper information you are to wire the
money to:

Receiver"s......xxxxxxxxxx
Address......xxxxxxxxxxxxx
City.......Wellford
State.......SC
Zip code.....29385

As soon as you have the fund wired, email back to me the below information:
Senders Name and address as appeared on Western Union Receipt.
MTCN (10 Digit Money Transfer Control Number)
Amount sent after Western Union Charges
Map-quest to your location and the exact time and date you want the
Shipper to come for the pick up of the items.

I wish I was cashing a check for 10 times the asking price. That would be wonderful.
